Understanding global climate change and how it is affecting bird
populations across North America

Greetings!

The North American Bird Phenology Program (BPP) is well on its way to becoming fully operational. Many volunteers have been coming to the BPP office to help scan migration cards and prepare for when we launch them on the website. To date we have scanned just over 20,000 records on many Warblers, Chickadees, Puffins, and Owls. We have also scanned all of the Purple Martin records. Thank you to all our dedicated volunteers for all their hard work!

We have now reviewed the second draft of the database and hope to have the third and final copy next week. Soon after, we will make it live so that people across the country can go onto the BPP website, and convert these pdf files of the migration cards into the database. We rely solely on volunteers to transcribe these historical records into the database and appreciate your patience in getting this portion of the program up and running. Please stay tuned- an E-Newsletter will be sent to all BPP participants when the database and migration card files are uploaded to the website.

Please contact me if you have any questions and don’t forget to check out the BPP website for more information. The website is under constant revision and more content will be added soon.
Sincerely,

Jessica Zelt
Program Coordinator
