  • Count all birds seen within 0.25-mile (400 m) radius except dependent young, including downy young of water and shorebirds.
  • Flocks too large to be counted during the 3-min time period may be estimated.
  • Count all birds heard regardless of suspected distance, unless recorded at a previous stop.
