Conducting a BBS Point Count (continued)
  • One and only one person should identify and count the birds; this person is known as the Observer.
    Assistants may help with almost any aspect of the BBS except the detection and counting of birds (i.e., recording the data, driving, data submission, counting of cars, etc.).
    We recommend limiting the number of assistants to two individuals on any given survey to avoid compromising the counts with unnecessary noise and distractions that often accompany larger groups.
