| | Title | North American Amphibian Monitoring Program |
| | Project Description | The North American Amphibian Monitoring Program (NAAMP) was created as a large-scale |
| | program to monitor the status and trends of anuran (frog and toad) populations. The survey |
| | methodology was based upon prior survey effort, primarily the Wisconsin Frog and Toad Survey |
| | that was initiated in 1981. The method adopted was a roadside calling survey, with multiple |
| | listening stations where anurans are identified by vocalizations during the breeding season. |
| | Stratified random roadside surveys are conducted three to four times per year, depending on the |
| | species assemblage of a region. The protocols of the calling survey were designed for species of |
| | the eastern half of North America, where anurans vocalize in a relatively predictable manner. |
| | NAAMP is a collaborative effort among many partner organizations working regionally and the |
| | U.S. Geological Survey. The USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center provides central |
| | coordination and administrative support. NAAMP regional partners include state government |
| | agencies, academic professionals, and non-profit organizations. The NAAMP website is: |
