Title Technical Assistance to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service - Kirtland's Warbler Recovery

Team - Kenneth Ennis

Project Description Dr. Bocetti serves on the Kirtlands Warbler Recovery Team, and Chairs the Research Committee

for the team. She has been an associate of this team since 1986. She has chaired the Research

Committee since 1993, and has been a full voting member of the team since 1998. This Recovery

Team meets twice a year, and plays a crucial role in maintaining the interagency cooperation for

the management of this species. In addition to USGS, the agencies represented on the team

include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), the U.S. Forest Service and Michigan

Department of Natural Resources. The team has recently expanded its membership to include

members that represent the Bahamas and Canada. In 2000, the team modified the recovery goal

statement, and is considering a complete revision of the Recovery Plan. As Chair of the Research

Committee, Dr. Bocetti reviews all research proposals, distributes them to fellow committee

members, collates committee member responses, and reports to the entire team regarding

support for the proposal. In addition, she maintains the list of research needs for this endangered

species. Most recently, Dr. Bocetti coordinated the netting, banding and feather collection

activities for the Kirtlands warbler recovery efforts in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at the

request of the FWS Lansing Field Office.
