Title Technical Assistance to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service - Mary Ratnaswamy/John

Project Description Dr. Bocetti provides technical assistance to personnel at several U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

facilities. The technical assistance is occasionally specific to a single task, but mostly it is

on-going. A description of the technical assistance for each facility is below. 1) Chesapeake Bay

Field Office, Annapolis, MD: a)serve as an advisor to the Delmarva Fox Squirrel (DFS) Recovery

Team, b)demonstrate DFS trapping, handling, ear tagging, and PIT tagging protocols, c)conduct

surveys for DFS to determine current range of the species; Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge,

Cambridge, MD: a) demonstrate DFS trapping, handling, ear tagging, and PIT tagging protocols,

b) assist with mark-recapture data collection on benchmark sites, c) provide poster, script, and

slides for education program and other presentations, d) co-propose additional cooperative DFS

research related to fire management; Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, Chincoteague, VA:

a) demonstrate DFS trapping, handling, ear tagging, and PIT tagging protocols, b) assist with

annual nest box checks.
