Title Development of methods to estimate species richness and community-dynamic

parameters from species list data

Project Description This project will involve further development of methods for the estimation of species richness and

related parameters associated with community dynamics, such as local rates of extinciton,

colonization, and turnover. These methods are based on capture-recapture models developed for

animal population studies and rely on an analogy between populations and communities. The

methods will also be used to test hypotheses about effects of habitat variables such as forest

fragmentation and urbanization on community dynamics.
