Title Development of methods for estimating patch occupancy and patch-dynamic

parameters from detection-nondetection survey data

Project Description This project involves research on field and statistical methods for estimating parameters relevant

to animal patch occupancy using data on detection-nondetection of particular species from

replicated (in time or space) surveys. In this project we will develop methods to estimate patch

occupancy probabilities from presence/absence data collected during repeated visits to

patches/areas. We will conduct simulations evaluating general models under several different

sampling scenarios. An extension of these methods involves development of models that

incorporate multiple species simultaneously for the purpose of addressing hypotheses about

species co-occurrence. These models will permit the incorporation of habitat covariates into the

models so that habitat can be factored out in a manner permitting inference about the species

interactions.
