| | Title | Risk quotient field validation pilot project for selected pesticides |
| | Project Description | There are two studies under this Project. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulates |
| | pesticide registration and use. The Agency is supposed to conduct a risk-benefit analysis for all |
| | pesticides. The two studies are designed to assist the Agency in better understanding risk. Study |
| | 1. Eggs, foot washes, ligatures, insects, vegetation, feathers, and soil were collected for |
| | pesticide residue analysis and blood samples were collected for plasma cholinesterase levels to |
| | understand pesticide exposure to birds in fruit orchards. Study 2. The objective of this study was |
| | to see how well laboratory testing and the Agencys risk assessment process predict the hazards |
| | to birds in the field. We conducted laboratory and outdoor large pen studies and compared |
| | mortality and pesticide residues. |
