Title Risk quotient field validation pilot project for selected pesticides

Project Description There are two studies under this Project. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulates

pesticide registration and use. The Agency is supposed to conduct a risk-benefit analysis for all

pesticides. The two studies are designed to assist the Agency in better understanding risk. Study

1. Eggs, foot washes, ligatures, insects, vegetation, feathers, and soil were collected for

pesticide residue analysis and blood samples were collected for plasma cholinesterase levels to

understand pesticide exposure to birds in fruit orchards. Study 2. The objective of this study was

to see how well laboratory testing and the Agencys risk assessment process predict the hazards

to birds in the field. We conducted laboratory and outdoor large pen studies and compared

mortality and pesticide residues.
