Using data from this database
Information presented on this website is considered public information unless otherwise noted and may be downloaded and used. However, rather than copying and distributing information found here, we encourage users to access the database directly, since this is the original data source in MOST cases. We cannot guarantee that repackaged data are unmodified. Use of appropriate credit is requested; citations should reference the date of access. We strongly encourage when using others' data to notify them - they may have helpful information regarding the dataset - and to offer co-authorship if appropriate. While we make every effort to provide accurate and complete information, data may be updated, and we welcome suggestions on how to improve our pages and to correct errors.
Most of the content in this database is information created and maintained by other state, federal, and private organizations. USGS does not control and cannot guarantee the relevance, timeliness, or accuracy of these data. We have made every effort to store descriptions of survey protocols and details on data collection to help users make the most informed decisions when using data. Always use data with awareness of the intent of original data collection as specified in the Study Design description.
This database is maintained on a USGS server. For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, this government computer system employs software programs to monitor and manage security. Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this website are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.
