Updated Recently on the Patuxent Home Page
The maps showing scoter locations based on satellite telemetry were updated today. Point your browser to http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/resshow/perry/scoters/ All five surf scoters instrumented in Chesapeake Bay in April 2002 are now in the Bay. The one that had moved north to New Jersey in early December has now returned to the Bay. The locations of the 13 black scoters instrumented in New Brunswick, Canada in early May 2002 are variable: Two ducks are along the
Massachusetts coast (one recently moved north from MD) For more information check the below website: http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/resshow/perry/scoters/ Contact: Dr. Matthew C. Perry 301-497-5622 |

Alumni Nancy and Dick Coon Visit Their Old Stomping Grounds at
Patuxent
Last Thursday was very quiet. With most employees taking extended annual leave during the Holiday Season, Gabrielson Lab was almost like a tomb. All of a sudden Matt Perry burst into my office squawking like a herring gull that some distinguished Patuxent alumni were on campus. Together we quickly searched Gabrielson. I went to Bob Munro's office; found it empty and since it was during the lunch period, I went over to the Library Reading Room where employees often gather for a friendly (?) game of Hearts. The only one there was Munro; keeping the faith; playing a game of Solitaire. He had not seen our visitors. We continued the search and finally found them in the Lobby. Nancy and Dick Coon had stopped by to pay a visit to some old friends and it was really good to see them. Both were here in the 1980s and later moved to the Atlanta Regional Office where they retired a few years back and moved to western North Carolina near former Center Director Lucille Stickel. More recently, they have moved back to their native Illinois to be closer to family. We all returned to the Library Reading Room for a good chat and some long overdue catching up. It was really great to have them with us again.
