to Present Paper on Land Use Strategies to Benefit Bird
Populations at First Annual Yucatan Bird Festival in Mexico
This entire week is being celebrated on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula with the First Annual Yucatan Bird Festival. The idea, supported by Governor Patricio Patron Laviada, Secretary of Tourism, Carolina Cardenas, and Mayor Ana Rosa Payan Cevera, is to promote interest in conservation and ecotourism throughout Yucatan with art exhibits, workshops, conferences, field trips, and competitions. USGS Patuxent biologist Chandler Robbins will give a paper on land use strategies to benefit bird populations, and assist with establishing a bird monitoring program. Contact: Chandler S. Twedt Participates in Forest Management Workshop in Vicksburg,
MS; Presents Seminar Entitled "Remodeling Bottomland
Forests for Birds"
From 4-7 November 2002, Daniel Twedt participated in a Forest Management Workshop in Vicksburg, Mississippi. This workshop, jointly sponsored by USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, provided education, discussion, and field exercises for wildlife managers and foresters. Dr. Twedt's presentation was titled, Remodeling Bottomland Forests for Birds.
