Results: Weather

The Weather file or table in the results set contains the following columns:
sStateProv The two digit numerical code that identifies the state or province the route was run in.
sRoute The three digit code that identifies the route.
iYear The year. The sStateProv, sRoute, and iYear columns uniquely identify a run of a route.
iMonth The month the route was run (1-12).
iDay The day the route was run (1-31).
iObsN An number assigned to each observer in the results set, by route.
iTotalSpp The total number of species recorded on that run of the route.
iStartTemp The temperature recorded at the beginning of the run of the route.
iEndTemp The temperature recorded at the end of the run of the route.
cTempScale The scale in which the temperatures were recorded. F stands for Fahrenheit; C stands for Celcius or Centigrade.
iStartWind The Beaufort wind speed code recorded at the beginning of the run of the route.
iEndWind The Beaufort wind speed code recorded at the end of the run of the route.
iStartSky The Weather Bureau sky code recorded at the beginning of the run of the route.
iEndSky The Weather Bureau sky code recorded at the end of the run of the route.
sStartTime The time the run of the route began, recorded in 24 hour local time.
sEndTime The time the run of the route ended, recorded in 24 hour local time.
iAssistant If someone assisted the observer by recording the data, then this column is 1, otherwise it is 0.
iRunType If this run is acceptable by BBS standards, then this column is 1, otherwise it is 0.

There is one row in the Weather file for every run of a route that matches the query. If species are selected, you can chose whether to include data for years with zero counts (see Example).

Example: Someone requests the data for Cerulean Warblers on route #049 in Ohio.

If they choose the first option (When and Where the Selected Species Was/Were Detected), this data file will provide the information only for those years where this species was detected on this route. If the species was never detected on this route, then no information would be provided.

If they choose the second option (Where the Selected Species Was/Were Detected (Includes Years with Zero Counts)), this data file will provide the information for all years that this route has been surveyed, unless no Cerulean Warblers have been detected along the route during the time period selected. In that case no information would be provided.

If a person only needs the weather information for the years when the species was detected on a route, then they should select the first option. If they need this information for all years that a route was surveyed, including those years when the species were not detected, then they should select the second option. Be careful about restricting the range of years when selecting the second option, since you will receive no records for a route unless you include a year where the species was found on that route.

If a complete set of weather data are needed, then do not request any species but just select the state/route combination and time interval of interest.
