Training: BBS Methodology - Point Counts [page 22/34]
Vehicles and Excessive Noise
In order to get a gross measure of traffic noise and related disturbance along each route, we ask that you count the number of vehicles that pass by while conducting each 3-min count. If you find counting vehicles too distracting from the bird survey then skip it. But remember, it is acceptable for your assistant to count vehicles for you. This information allows us to determine when a route may need to be modified, and also may be used as an explanatory variable in future analyses.
