Spotted Chirping Frog (Eleutherodactylus guttilatus)

The spotted chirping frog has a vermiculite (wormlike) dark pattern over a yellowish to brownish ground color.  It also has a dark bar between the eyes.   Truncated toe pads are more predominant on the front feet.  They are very rare and occur in springs, canyons, and caves where moisture is present.  They can be found under moist rocks, sotols, and agaves.  Often runs when disturbed, instead of leaping or hopping.  They are nocturnal and most active after rains.

Call:  Short, sharp whistle, sounding like an Inca dove.
