Map and Directions to USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center

Main Campus

All visitors must have prior approval before entering the main campus of the Center. You should coordinate with your sponsor before coming on-Center since the guard at the front gate must be informed about the arrival of all guests. The following information is required:

Full name (for each person if more than one)
Company name (if applicable)
Vehicle description
Approximate time of arrival

From Washington, D.C.: Take Baltimore/Washington Parkway (Route 295) North, to Powder Mill Road-Beltsville exit. Turn right (east) onto Powder Mill Road and stay on Powder Mill Road (approx. 2 miles) until you reach the intersection of Route197 and Powder Mill (stoplight). The main gate of Patuxent is straight ahead.  Follow entry road into Patuxent.

From Baltimore, MD: Take Baltimore/Washington Parkway (Route 295) South to Laurel exit, Route 197. Turn left on Route 197. Follow 197 approximately 1 1/2 miles to main gate on left (opposite intersection with Powder Mill Road (stoplight)). Follow entry road into Patuxent.

From Annapolis, MD:  Take US 50/US 301 West and go approximately 12.5 miles to Exit 11. Take the Collington Rd/MD-197N exit (Exit 11) and bear right. Proceed 8.7 miles to Powder Mill Road intersection (stoplight) and make a right hand turn into the main gate. Follow entry road into Patuxent.

Beltsville Laboratory

Building 308 has a sign in front: USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, Beltsville Laboratory. Go to the front door and push the buzzer on the right; you are on a closed-circuit camera and will get directions to proceed to the Room 222A (Leslie's Office) for a visitor's badge.

From Washington, D.C.: Take Baltimore/Washington Parkway (Route 295) North, to Powder Mill Road-Beltsville exit. Turn left (west) onto Powder Mill Road and stay on Powder Mill Road (approx. .5 miles) until you reach Center Road & turn right. A sign says "ARS National Visitor Center (Building
302, Log Lodge) next left". Three large several story brick buildings are on the your left, Numbered "306, 307 & 308".

From Baltimore, MD: Take Baltimore/Washington Parkway (Route 295) South to Powder Mill Road-Beltsville exit and turn right. Stay on Powder Mill Road (approx. .5 miles) until you reach Center Road & turn right. A sign says "ARS National Visitor Center (Building 302, Log Lodge) next left". Three large several story brick buildings are on the your left, Numbered "306, 307 & 308".

From Annapolis, MD:  Take US 50/US 301 West and go approximately 12.5 miles to Exit 11. Take the Collington Rd/MD-197N exit (Exit 11) and bear right. Proceed 8.7 miles to Powder Mill Road intersection (stoplight) and make a left hand turn onto Powder Mill Road. Go straight on Powder Mill Road for about 2 miles until you reach Center Road & turn right. A sign says "ARS National Visitor Center (Building 302, Log Lodge) next left". Three large several story brick buildings are on the your left, Numbered "306, 307 & 308".
