On March 31, 2008, Lois Loges retired after 34 years of Federal service. Lois began her career at Patuxent as a clerk typist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in June 1974. After serving a brief stint as a biological technician, Lois left Patuxent briefly to pursue further academic studies. In March 1976, Lois returned to Patuxent as a statistical assistant; the place where her career began would also be where it ended. In May 1979, Lois was promoted to a biological statistician position. Lois migrated to the computer field in 1985 assuming the title of computer programmer. Lois found her career niche in 1996 when she designed and launched the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center’s (PWRC) first public web site. Since its inception and until her recent retirement, Lois served dutifully as PWRC’s webmaster. Often calling it “her baby”, Lois’ web acumen led to unprecedented public access to Patuxent’s data and information archives. Through her efforts, electronic data and information sharing via the web with the public, non-profit and for-profit organizations, state governments, and international partners became and still is a core and mission-critical capability. The PWRC wishes Lois (“The Mother of the PWRC Web”) many joyful and relaxing years in retirement. |
