Banding data can be supplied as hard copy listings (single or multiple copy), floppy diskette, CD-ROM, and on an individual basis, files can be downloaded via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) from the Internet. A request for data should specify the form in which you want the information provided.
The Bird Banding Laboratory will not summarize and tabulate data. In some cases information requested may have already been tabulated by research or management biologists. In these cases, the information can be made available. The Canadian Wildlife Service has developed a small number of standard programs that manipulate raw data in a number of ways. One of these programs may perform the summarization that a researcher would otherwise have to do themselves.
Data from the retrieval files on diskette will be in the Encounter File Format or Summary Banding File Format.
