Black Brant Protocol

Black Brant are banded with colored plastic bands with individual engraved codes. The color of the tarsal band indicates the area where the bird was marked.

• Red band, White codes: Russia--Wrangel Is. and Chukotska Peninsula
• Yellow band, Black codes: Alaska, Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge (NWR)
• White band, Blue codes: Alaska, Yukon Delta NWR
• Green band, White codes: Alaska, North Slope, Teshekpuk area
• Blue band, White codes: Arctic Canada
• Brown band, White codes: Vancouver Island
• Aqua band, Black codes: Alaska, North Slope, Oil Fields
• Orange band, Black codes: Alaska, Yukon Delta NWR
• Silver band, White codes: Alaska, Yukon Delta NWR
