Bird Banding Manual Mexican State Codes
Mexican State Codes
In the past, coordinates for Mexican bandings and encounters were not entered into the files. As of June 1, 1989, bandings and encounters in Mexico were processed using exact coordinates when possible. If exact coordinates could not be determined, the three-digit Mexican State code, which occupied the last three digits of the longitude field, was used in addition to region code 748 for the Republic of Mexico. In 2006 records were updated by assigning the state based on the longitude value and then modifying the coordinates to the geographical center of the state.
